Kathy LeMay is a an internationally-recognized public speaker, philanthropic advisor, and published author whose purpose-driven life centers on lifting up the voices, stories, leadership and influence the women and girls around the world. Kathy speaks about the transformation life; of shifting from success to significance, and putting humanity back into modern philanthropy. She coaches social change innovators and global donors to boldly and unapologetically create the world we know is possible. Kathy's book The Generosity Plan, released by Simon & Schuster and Beyond Words in 2010, aims to put philanthropic power into the hands of regular individuals, families, and communities.
Kathy began her global activism and fundraising work in war-torn Bosnia at the age of 23. She traveled to the region to help women survivors of rape-genocide camps. Fueled by what she witnessed, Kathy returned to the US and set about raising $250,000 to put where Bosnian women voiced they needed it most- medical care for themselves and their children, and funding for their journeys to testify at the Hague War Crimes Tribunal.
From that experience Kathy realized the power of redistributing resources into women's hands at a grassroots level. Since then, Kathy has raised $150 million to fund women's human rights, the care of children (in war-torn, impoverished, and disaster areas), animal rights, and social movement building. Kathy's influential advising has lead global philanthropists to donate an additional $100 million to fund grassroots social change and innovation. She has advised corporate executives, members of the United Nations, and leaders of top-level universities in their efforts to put generosity into action. Believing in the power of working from the ground up, Kathy has trained grassroots change-makers in all fifty United States, throughout Canada and Mexico, in both Eastern and Western Europe, and recently in Uganda, Kenya and Senegal on the African continent. She has appeared on the Oprah Winfrey show, was a speaker at Deepak Chorpa's "Sages & Scientists" symposium, and is slotted to speak at the 2015 TED Women conference.
She is currently writing her next book, due out in 2016.
