An interview with Mark and Meghan Hogan, our event co-chairs:
West Seattle-ites Mark and Meghan Hogan are long-time supporters of WestSide Baby, and their presence, from volunteering to organizing diaper drives, has been especially welcome when organizing our signature cocktail event. We caught up with the Hogans to find out what keeps them coming back to WestSide Baby...
How did you get involved with WestSide Baby?
“We first learned of WestSide Baby when Meghan was invited by a friend to volunteer sorting donated clothing for them several years ago. We were both shocked to learn that assistance programs like SNAP and WIC did not cover diapers. We have two young children and are fortunate to be in a situation where we never had to think twice about changing diapers or buying other essential items for them. It really struck a chord with us to imagine families who had to choose between diapers and food, or to imagine not being able to work and bring much-needed income to a family because one couldn't afford the diapers required to send a baby to day care.”
Why do you continue to support WestSide Baby?
“Keeping babies safe, warm and dry is a mission that we are proud to support. It's alarming to realize that even with over 1 million diapers distributed in King County last year, there are still so many children going without."
Why is the cause important to you?
"Low income families face so many stresses and challenges in their daily lives. If any small thing that we do or amount that we give can help a child get a better start in life or relieve a parent's stress, then it is worth every penny.”
